Team Science

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), team science is a collaborative effort where the strengths and expertise of professionals across disciplines are used to address complex scientific or social challenges. These teams also are able to reach a broader group of stakeholders, such as academic scientists, clinicians, community members, industry partners, and policy makers, that may be missed by a single investigator. Team science is not just used in research, it can also be used in the medical field, emergency response management, military operations, business, and more.

The FSU CTSA Team Science Program works to train researchers on the science of Team Science by teaching the best practice methods for teamwork. Currently, the Team Science program is lead by Drs. Bonnie Spring and Carla Wood. They both focus on different aspects of team science to give faculty a comprehensive education on the concept.

Developed by Dr. Bonnie Spring, this comprehensive repository provide information on a Community Toolkit and Academic Modules on Team Science. The Toolkit is organized into five phases of research partnership, from deciding to collaborate through post-study dissemination. It includes practical templates such as letters of support, budget justifications, collaboration agreements, and reflection tools, alongside resources for building communication skills and incorporating community perspectives. The Academic Modules complement this by curating books, articles, databases, and networks that ground users in the theory and practice of team science. Together, these resources aim to equip both community and academic partners with structured guidance and evidence-based strategies for more effective collaboration.
