Translational Workforce Development (TWD) refers to the process of training and equipping academic professionals with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to translate scientific discoveries into practical applications that improve health, technology, and industry outcomes. TWD is critical to translational research, which bridges the gap between basic science and real-world implementation. The University of Florida (UF) and Florida State University (UF-FSU) Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Project's TWD portfolio of programs include:
- Supporting education and training activities across our CTSA hub;
- Providing opportunities for trainees, including graduate students, medical students, postdoctoral research fellows, early career investigators, and recently established investigators; and
- Developing educational and training programs and mentor networks.
FSU's TWD portfolio of programs is directed by Dr. Henna Budhwani.
The following portfolios are within TWD program: Team Science, Research Mentoring, K2R Career Development Program, and Dissemaintion and Implementation Science Core (DISC).
Other TWD Opportunities
Medical Student Research: Until 2024, Medical Student Research was included in FSU's TWD portfolio of programs and is still part of UF's TWD. If you are an FSU medical student interested in learning about or conducting research, please contact Ms. Suzanne Baker, Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs and Medical Student Research, Division of Research and Graduate Programs, College of Medicine.
Institutional Training Programs (T32): The TWD portfolio supports investigators interested in growing pre-doctoral and post-doctoral NIH-sponsored training programs at FSU via the collation, management, and creation of mentor and mentee tables. For support in developing your T32 proposal, please contact Andrea Johnson, MPH.
