New Policies related to Artificial Intelligence and Application Limits - July 2025
Effective September 25, 2025, the NIH will be instituting two new policies. The first policy related to the appropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI) the research application process. NIH will not consider applications that are either substantially developed by AI, or contain sections substantially developed by AI, to be original ideas of applicants. The second policy will limit the number of applications an individual Principal Investigator can submit per calendar year. NIH will only accept six (6) new, renewal, resubmission, or revision applications from an individual Principal Investigator/Program Director or Multiple Principal Investigator for all council rounds in a calendar year
New Policy Requiring Training for Senior/Key Personnel - July 2025
Effective October 1, 2025, NIH recipients must providing trainings to all faculty and researchers identified as Senior/Key Personnel to ensure they fully understand their responsibility to disclose all research activities and affiliations in the Other Support form.
Change to Public Access Policy - June 2025
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently announced that the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy will now apply to all peer-reviewed publications accepted on or after July 1, 2025, and will apply to all existing and new awards. To support faculty on existing awards during this accelerated policy transition, the FSU Office of Research will consider requests to help cover the gap (“delta”) for those with active NIH grants who do not have sufficient funds in their awards to support compliance with public access publishing.
Updated NIH Policy on Foreign Subawards - May 2025
Effective with the next NIH award cycle, all NIH-funded research involving foreign subawards must be structured as subprojects directly linked to the prime award. Foreign subawards are prohibited from being nested under the parent grant. The Guide Notice NOT-OD-25-104 provides an update on NIH policies and practices for utilizing foreign subawards.
SciENcv Virtual Tutorial Recordings - April 2025
Starting in May 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will shift to this platform for the Common Forms and NIH-specific supplemental documents. We want to equip you with all of the tools you'll need before this change takes effect. These sessions include a virtual tutorial through the ORCiD, MyNCBI, and SciENcv platforms, including efficient ways to import your citations and a how-to demonstration for creating and exporting NIH and NSF biosketches.
