Networks Across the Lifespan

Looking for participants in a study that looks at how the brain changes across the lifespan. The study consists of collecting behavioral and MRI data.
Who Can Participate:
- Ages 36-75 years
- No non-removable metal
- Native English speaker
- No history of neurological or psychiatric disorders

- Up to 8 lab visits over 1-3 months

Resistance Exercise Training Modulation of Fat Metabolism in Obese Postmenopausal Women
Principal Investigators: Robert Hickner, PhD, and Michael Ormsbee, PhD
This study examines changes in body composition, physical fitness, and metabolism in postmenopausal women after completing 12 weeks of either resistance or aerobic exercise training.
Who Can Participate:
- Women between the ages of 50-70 years old who have completed menopause, have excess body fat, and are at risk of developing type II diabetes
- Prospective subjects should not be on any medications to treat chronic disease conditions, not currently partaking in exercise, nor have any cardiorespiratory or musculoskeletal condition that would limit their ability to exercise.
Duration:
- 12 weeks

The Effect of Speech Rehabilitation Based on Mobile Application for People with Dysarthria After Stroke: A Single-center, Investigator-blinded, Randomized, Cross-Over Trial
Principal Investigator: Yunjung Kim, PhD
study develops and tests a smartphone application to be used for speech therapy for stroke survivors. The application allows patients to receive personalized treatment remotely, as an effort to improve accessibility and convenience of speech rehabilitation services.
Who Can Participate:
- Stroke survivors who are 18 years or older with speech intelligibility deficits.
- Individuals who have no problems using a smartphone application (physically and cognitively).
- Native speakers of English who can read and write.
- Individuals without other neurological conditions (e.g. dementia, Pick's disease, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, or Parkinsonism)
- Individuals without severe mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia, severe depression, alcohol or substance abuse disorders).
Duration:
- Individuals will actively participate in a 4-week clinical trial of our remote speech therapy program using the application, which will be installed to your cellphone for free.
Compensation:
- $200 upon study completion

Comorbid Mental Health and Cardiometabolic Syndrome Community Study

We are conducting this study to better understand community member perspectives on barriers and facilitators to successful disease management.
Who Can Participate:
- 18 years of age or older
- Have lived in one of the following communities for the last two years:
- Greater Frenchtown
- Providence
- Callen
- Liberty Park
- Bond Community South City
- Apalachee Ridge
Duration:
- Complete a written survey (30 minutes)
- Contribute to a round table discussion about experiences with health care system (1 hour)

Who do Women Talk to About Relationship Matters?: A Mixed-Methods Evaluation of Social Networks and Disclosure in Florida
Principal Investigator: Pooja Ichplani
This study compares the interpersonal networks of women survivors of intimate partner violence with those of women at-risk of intimate partner violence. The end goal is to propose recommendations for a social network driven primary prevention program to reduce incidents of intimate partner violence.
Who Can Participate:
- Women who are at least 18 years of age, and have been or currently are in an intimate or romantic relationship for at least three months.
Duration:
- 30 minute survey
Compensation:
- Participants earn $10 upon survey completion.

LGBTQ Retirement Planning Study
Principal Investigator: Koji Ueno, PhD
A research team invites LGBTQ people to participate in an interview study that focuses on their thoughts and plans for retirement as well as their experiences of retirement transitions.
Who Can Participate:
- Identify as non-heterosexual or non-cisgender
- Age between 60 and 75
- Currently working (Those who have previously retired are not eligible for the study, even if they are currently working.)
- Live in the United States
Duration:
- One 60 minute virtual interview over Zoom.

How Does My Brain Hear? Speech Understanding and Emotion Perception
Principal Investigator: Zilong Xie, PhD
A research team invites you to participate in a research study to investigate how our brains process speech sounds as we age. In this study, you will listen and respond to speech sounds in a quiet room. You may also undergo testing of brain responses, in which sensors will be placed on your head to record brain waves specific to hearing.
Who Can Participate:
- Aged 18 years and older
- Native English speaker
- Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
- Normal or near-normal hearing
- No history of psychiatric or neurological disorders
- No history of use of psychiatric medication

The Effects of Respiratory Muscle Training on Blood Pressure and Respiratory Function
Principal Investigator: Joseph Watso, PhD
This training study looks at the effect of inspiratory (breathing) muscle training on fitness in adults.
Who Can Participate:
- Adults 20-45 years old.
- Have a body mass index (BMI) of 30-40 kg/m2.
- Some exclusion criteria include sleep apnea, asthma, or chronic illnesses.
- Ability to visit FSU campus.
Duration:
- At-home training for 8-weeks - only 5 minutes per day.

Integrative Science for Healthy Aging Research Registry

We are inviting anyone aged 40 and older who is interested in being contacted for future research studies to complete a brief survey (~5) about yourself and your interest in different types of lifestyle and disease prevention research. Information from this survey will be used by our team to help determine your eligibility for future studies and contact you with studies that may be of interest. You are making no commitment to be involved in future studies by completing this survey.
Who Can Participate:
- Anyone 40 years or older is eligible to complete the survey. If you do not have access to a computer to complete the survey, a member of our team can complete it with you by phone or in-person.
Duration:
- Around five minutes.

A Qualitative Study to Understand Infant Feeding Practices Among Mother-Infant Dyads enrolled in Maternal-Child Home Visiting Programs

The purpose of this study is to gain insight on infant feeding from mothers enrolled in maternal-child home visiting programs and the personnel who serve them.
Who Can Participate:
- Mothers and/or home visitors age 18 years or older
- Mothers who have given birth to a healthy infant in the past 2 years
- Must be fluent in English or Spanish
Duration:
- Around 30 minutes to an hour.
Compensation:
